“Matthew explains things clearly, meaning I can make informed decisions about my finances”

Hi, my name is Marian Mulady, and I’ve been a client of Matthew’s for a minimum of 12 years.

I retired 20 years ago and at that point, I was an Equitable Life pensioner, or thought I was, but it coincided with the collapse of Equitable Life. So, we had to look for a financial adviser fairly quickly.

It was my late husband’s absolute pride and joy that we would enjoy a comfortable retirement when we did decide to retire. I think his aspiration was to have the best possible outcome and the highest possible secure income for us for the rest of our lives.

He always explains things very easily to me. I mean, I’m not the greatest financial brain, but I can understand principles, and I can make informed decisions if I’m given the right information to do so. He’s very good at explaining the outcome or the possible pitfalls of any particular course of action.

I was widowed five years ago. Of course, when my husband was alive, he used to take a lot more lively interest in the more detailed aspects of our investments, and I’ve had to sort of take over, but I’ve always found Matthew very helpful with what is strictly his portfolio but also if I’ve got any other financial concerns.

I feel very reassured because I’ve known him for so long. So far, everything’s gone absolutely splendidly. He’s a very pleasant person to engage with, I quite look forward to his visits twice a year.

The three words I would use to describe Matthew would be knowledgeable, pleasant to deal with, and reliable.

I feel quite reassured that my money is in the best possible hands. We are in terribly turbulent times at the moment, so nobody can be sure of what the outcome will be, but I feel quite reassured, actually, that he does flag up possible problems early on, and then we can perhaps tackle them.

When I was first widowed, I called a tripartite meeting with my accountant and Matthew so they could meet each other and bat off each other and offer me advice according to one being more tax conversant than the other one, who is more investment conversant. I would recommend that to any widow. It was brilliant. It was the best thing I thought of at the time to bring the three of us together around one table and make some decisions.

Yes, the thing I appreciate most is that he never patronises me but just explains things at a level that I can understand.

I would recommend Matthew unhesitatingly because of his pleasant manner, his sound judgement (as far as I can tell so far), and the fact that I can always rely on him to be on the other end of the phone, should I need any advice or encouragement.
